3 Nights in Sundarbans Mangrove Safari

Set off on a half-day drive from Kolkata to Godkhali Jetty (100km, approx. 3.5 hrs). Upon arrival at Godkhali Jetty, we will leave the roads behind and take a motorboat to travel through the winding creeks of the delta

Once we arrive at Sajnekhali or Dayapur Island, check into your eco-resort and have lunch. After lunch and rest, we will check out the Sajnekhali Watch tower (to get your first view of the mangrove wilderness), and the Mangrove Interpretation Centre (for an understanding of the fragile yet fierce ecology).

Later in the evening, you can enjoy a local tribal folk dance brought to you by the villagers in appreciation of their connection to the forest.

Overnight at the resort.

Watch the sun rise and then get ready to enjoy a full day out on a motorboat safari through the delta. You’ll explore the many creeks, including Panchamukhani, stopping at the Sudhanyakhali Watchtower (a good tiger-viewing location), and witness the Dobanki Canopy Walk — a walk above the forest floor on suspended walkways.

At the halfway point of the safari, stop for a visit at the Bonbibi Shrine in where locals gather to pay their respects to the goddess of the jungle. Locals believe she protects humans from tiger attacks and maintains peace and protection between man and beast.

During the safari, keep an eye out for spotted deer, estuarine crocodiles, mudskippers, kingfishers, and perhaps even a glimpse of a swimming or resting tiger.

Return to your lodge or floating boat for the night, while frogs croak and leaves rustle in the background.

On your last morning, have a guided walk-through a nearby delta village where you’ll see how the locals live with the tides. You will also learn about crab catching, fishing nets, and their very own creative, sustainable ways to survive in their ecosystem.

After breakfast, you'll board the boat back to Godkhali, where your driver will take you back to Kolkata with memories of a land where nature has its own story.
