Royal Roots and Local Rhythms: Arrival at Imphal
When you arrive in Imphal, culture bursts from every corner as soon as you land. You will jump straight into the past with a visit to Kangla Fort, the historic seat of Manipur’s kings. Shree Govindajee Temple offers a peaceful pause in Imphal, where centuries of Vaishnav devotion continue to shape everyday life. From here, it won’t take long to reach the fascinating lanes of Ima Keithel, Asia’s only market entirely run by women, a living tribute to matriarchal strength. Dinner can be at a traditional Manipuri meal or take a breather at a very pleasant café in the Khurai Leikai area.

Breathing Waters: Loktak Lake and Keibul Lamjao
After breakfast, set off for Loktak Lake (around 55 km / would take 1.5 hrs), a surreal freshwater lake which establishes a broader definition for floating islands, called phumdis, that move with the wind. Experience actually moving over them in a traditional boat and enjoy the views from Sendra Island. Make your way to Keibul Lamjao, a floating stretch of wilderness that shelters the endangered Sangai — a deer found nowhere else on Earth.
If you're up for a short detour, take a walk through India’s freedom legacy at Moirang, where the INA flag marked a turning point in the independence movement. For the night, choose between a quiet stay near Moirang or head back to Imphal for added comfort.
The Hills Hold Secrets: Imphal to Ukhrul – The Tangkhul Naga Heartland (3 hours)
The trip includes winding roads heading towards Ukhrul (85 km), the territory of the Tangkhul Naga tribe. Expect to visit the beautiful Siroi Hills and hopefully witness the delicate Siroi Lily (which blooms during May–June). Explore the mystical Khangkhui Mangsor Caves, steeped in folklore and antiquity. If the timing is right, you may witness a traditional Tangkhul dance performance and view local craftspeople crafting handmade bamboo and textile treasures.
Overnight in Ukhrul (basic yet clean accommodation).
Soul & Soil: Return to Imphal via Andro Village (3 Hours)
After breakfast and the beginning of your return to Imphal, you will stop at a cultural stop and visit Andro Village and experience the Sanamahi traditions and terracotta work, and ancient traditional Meitei houses. Rooted in Meitei cosmology, the Sanamahi Temple invites you to witness a spiritual path shaped by nature, ancestors, and tradition. After leaving Andro, you will have the option to visit the Manipur State Museum or the War Cemetery, which will add to the already thick layers of history about the state of Manipur.
Time to Say Goodbye to Manipur
As your Manipur journey comes to an end, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before travelling back to Imphal Airport with the team. If time permits, enjoy shopping for black pottery, handwoven phanek, or bamboo handicrafts so that you can take a little piece of Manipur with you.
